Thanksgiving is a time when many families rejoice in happy celebrations, eating and spending time with family and friends. Thanksgiving is different for everyone, some aren’t able to put a meal on the table while others can. Sadly, most Americans turn a blind eye to how many people don’t have a Thanksgiving feast.
The saying “I’m starving” is used incorrectly most of the time. Many people who say I am starving are usually just hungry.
Forty-seven million people in the US actually are starving. Most kids have and will never experience what it is like to go hungry, having a packed lunch or a school provided meal to them.
While children who attend a JCPS school are provided with meals by the district, there are 31,000 Louisvillians who are food insecure, and some go to the same school as you.
To stop students and families from going hungry during the holiday season JCPS partners with Dare to Care to stop students from going hungry. Throughout many of the eighth graders’ years they have done different versions of the food drive, supporting families in Louisville.
Caden Green, an eighth grader said, ¨Noe for the last few years has been participating in food drives,¨ Green tries to donate food to the families in need as well as influence others to donate to the food drive.
Throughout the school you can find students donating food during the holidays. Get out there and donate food to families in need. You can find the dare to care donations in different spots in the school such as, the cafeteria, the main office and in team halls.
