Most Noe families opt for a staycation as Spring Break approaches

By Harper Lile, 8th Grade, and Nina Sinclair, 7th Grade

Spring break is right around the corner for JCPS. Kids and families are getting excited for the much needed break from school. There are various popular destinations at Noe, anywhere from skiing, to chilling at the beach or even just relaxing at home.

Based on national survey’s, some of the most popular destinations for Americans are many cities in Florida from Orlando (Disney), Naples, Panama City Beach, Miami, Fort Lauderdale, out west destinations such as Las Vegas, Park City, Phoenix and Denver, Islands in Hawaii, islands in the Caribbean and Mexico or exploring Europe in the most popular cities like Rome or Paris. Overall, the main spring break themes across America are somewhere warm and tropical, whether it’s Florida or an island or exploring the west, whether it’s for skiing or hiking in national parks.

We decided that we would make our own survey, and see what the most popular activities are at Noe over spring break. We had 75 responses to our survey, and here are the results:

Based on this survey, we made an inference that most people at Noe either travel somewhere in the U.S, or they stay home – 25.3% of students that responded are traveling somewhere in the US and 26.7% of students are staying home. Some students elaborated and said that they were hanging out with friends, going to the movies, or going shopping. One student even more specifically said they were planning on seeing the new blockbuster film, Mario Super Galaxy. Students seemed to be making the best of a staycation at home.

Other popular destinations among Noe students were visiting their relatives and visiting the beach.

Since the largest number of Noe students are staying home, here are some  ways to make the most of your break at home.

  • Go to the movies
  • Have a movie marathon at home
  • Get your nails done or do a spa day at home
  • Go to fun golf activities such as Puttshack, Putt Putt or TopGolf
  • Try a new restaurant
  • Go out for ice cream
  • Make pizzas at home
  • Go to the library
  • Set up plans with your friends
  • Go on a run, play a new sport, take a walk or go to the gym
  • Family trivia or game night
  • Backyard camping
  • Bake brownies or cookies

A couple of Noe students also plan on visiting water parks and amusement parks, a very fun thing to do with your friends, family and enjoy the spring and summer weather.

Journalism teacher Jason Nelson plans on connecting with nature over break as he states, “We plan on camping and staying in a cabin.”

Some people also plan on enjoying nature by skiing. Clara McGarvey states, “I am going to Denver, Colorado, in hopes that we are able to ski.” Caden Green similarly states, “I am going skiing with my family up in Vermont, for the first time.”

Overall spring break is a time for families to connect, spend quality time together, and go on new adventures, whether it’s home or away somewhere. Additionally, it’s a time for students to relax and enjoy themselves after long school weeks.
