NOE MIDDLE SCHOOL, February 3, 2026 – Snow days affect students’ learning by disrupting the rhythm of students along with teachers’ curriculum.
Students will get behind just like any other break during snow days, but non-traditional instruction (NTI) days can help preserve and potentially benefit what students learn if they work on programs, such as lexia or khan academy.
Assistant Principal Scott Wade said “NTI days are effective at preserving summer break. Each individual student is different, but those students who use this time to work on extra Lexia, Khan academy, or just reading can benefit from the break. “
Whether students fall behind or not depends on the students’ willingness to complete their assignments, Wade added. If they come back wanting to learn then students should be able to catch up and get back in rhythm.
Snow days can also be a small break for students to make memories that students can cherish, helping students mentally. Sixth-grader Maddox Swaider said “I will remember snow days as a happy incident even as an adult”.
Snow days can help and damage students based on their own perceptions and work ethics.
