McKinney switching roles as new drama teacher

LOUISVILLE, KY, AUG. 27, 2026 – A familiar face is taking center stage in the drama department this year, as former Aviators ELA teacher, Megan Mckinney steps into the spotlight as our new drama teacher.

This is Mckinney’s first year as a drama teacher and she is excited to fill Kim Joiner’s (Mrs. JJ) shoes as she was “very generous” and “the kids absolutely loved her.” The previous drama teacher retired.

Mckinney wants to uphold this legacy and make drama a special place for the students.

Mckinney was previously a drama teacher and has an MFA, a Master of Fine Arts. She was inspired to get into theater because growing up in Louisville she often went on field trips to Stage One. She added that when the lights go down and the show comes up, the idea that you’re stepping into a new environment was such an amazing experience.

Mckinney said compromising with your scene partner is the best way to improv. Being engaged in your scene, there needs to be an active participation so you can really express how you feel. You need to be able to listen to really understand what your partner is saying.

Mckinney is looking forward to having an amazing year and really getting to know and work with all these new students. End scene.
