Skills sessions are every Wednesday

LOUISVILLE, KY, SEPTEMBER 14 – If you’re interested in playing boys’ lacrosse, you can attend a weekly training session to learn the sport or develop your skills.

Lacrosse conditioning begins Wednesday at Noe. It will be from 3:30-5:30 p.m. each week until winter break. Athletes will learn the game during a two-hour training session each week. The first hour is skills training and conditioning. The second hour is a 6-v-6 scrimmage, known in lacrosse as Sixes. Conditioning and off-season training is optional, but the mostly new players need time to learn the sport.

Everyone needs a KHSAA Sports physical uploaded into Finalforms.com to participate. Pads and uniforms are supplied. A limited number of sticks and helmets are available, but players are encouraged to purchase their own stick and helmet (white) if they intend to play in the spring.

Head coach  Jason Nelson said, “Lacrosse is an exciting sport. It takes speed, endurance, and many of the skills needed in other sports. It’s physical and a great option if you’re looking for a new sport, a first sport, or a spring activity.” He hopes that more players join this year, and he is constantly searching for experienced players.

The team started two years ago as a club and played competitively last year with about 12 players. This year, the team has about 20 registered players and Nelson hopes to add a sixth-grade team if enough players join.

The competitive Lacrosse season is in the spring. Official practice will begin mid-February. Once practice begins, athletes can expect to practice three days per week until games start. Once games start, there are one or two practices per week and generally two games per week.
