The gym is filled with high-energy and non-stop drills as Basketball season approaches. The Noe Middle School boys’ basketball team is working to prepare for the JCPS league, which kicks off next month.
The team is adjusting to a new coach, offense, and defensive strategy. The staff is prioritizing fundamentals and conditioning.
“Conditioning is the only way the team will survive the fourth quarter,” head coach Sullivan Holder said.
Guard Cole Whitney also emphasized the fundamentals: “If the team doesn’t look up and pass against the press, they are going to turn the ball over constantly.”
The coaching staff thinks the team shows a lot of potential and a strong work ethic, with the main challenge being making sure the new players know the playbook.
Sixth graders are also facing a big adjustment. They aren’t the big men on campus anymore and the ball is larger, but the coaching staff thinks they will be ready.
The JCPS league begins its regular season Nov. 4. The team recently competed in a jamboree (scrimmages), and went 1-2.
