LOUISVILLE, KY, AUG. 26, 2026 – Kelly Graehler is the sixth-grade counselor at Noe Middle school. She started at Noe as a Mental Health Practitioner before she transitioned to a counselor.
This is Graehler’s first year as a sixth-grade counselor and she said she’s excited for the school year. She added seventh-grade is the harder group to handle as they can be more moody and sometimes mean, making them harder to work with.
Graehler became a counselor because her mom worked in education when she was growing up and she would take her to school with her. She loved being at the school with her mom and she also wanted to make kids comfortable talking to her on their own.
Graehler’s favorite part about being a counselor is working with kids, rather than adults. Her least favorite part is not being able to change what’s going on at home for some students.
Graehler added it can be challenging being the sixth-grade counselor because she gets new students who she does not know or is not used to working with. However, she will have three years to get to know the kids as counselors loop with their students each year, meaning she will be a seventh-grade counselor next year.
