Sells discusses why Noe is the right choice for current fifth graders
Information gathered by Cheyenne Hutchens and Riley Gallagher, The Noetice
Why would Noe be a good middle school?
“Noe is a good middle school because of the amazing magnet programs that it offers to students. Not to mention the dedicated teachers who work there.”
What does your class have to offer students?
“In my ELA class, we start with some silent reading time to help students prepare for their grading period book projects due at the end of the grading period. Then we work on some grammar skills, editing a couple of sentences a day. Then we move into our JCPS curriculum modules. In my ELA class, it is my hope that students learn some new ways to think about reading and writing – adding tools to their educational toolbox.”
How do your teaching methods differ from other schools?
“I don’t know about what other schools do because I have been at Noe the whole time I have been in JCPS, but I do use components of the “Whole-Brain” teaching methods. “Whole-brain” teaching uses call and response and movement to help students retain information.”
What makes Noe unique?
“I love teaching at Noe because we have access to view some amazing performances from talented students, right here, in house. We have the opportunity to go to the school musical, dance performances, choir, band and orchestra performances. Noe also hosts the “Arts Extravaganza” for students to showcase their art in Visual and Graphic arts. Our students are extremely talented and we get to celebrate that with them.”
How does Noe help students get into high schools?
“Noe has high rigor assignments that prepare students for what they will face in high school. Noe is also a school with a larger population. Most high schools have over 1,500 students – Noe is close to that. In addition, timed passing periods and changing of classes help students prepare for the expectations of high school.”
