Asa Ewing places 5th overall

Since July, the Noe cross country teams trained to be the best they can be. On Oct. 17, they competed in the KTCCCA Middle School State Championships at the Kentucky Horse Park. The girls’ team was third and the boys were sixth.
Eighth-grader Asa Ewing was one of the runners in the race.
“The State meet is always fun,” Ewing said. “A tense air filled the facility, but was lifted as soon as the starting gun fired. It was a struggle to perform well, but in the end I succeeded, and was able to have fun on my cooldown with fellow competitors.”
Ewing said that there were 490 runners in his race. He placed fifth for the 4-kilometer race, running a time of 13:33.
Another runner was seventh-grader Olivia Nelson.
“The meet on Saturday was full of nerves,” she said. “It felt like a lot since it is the most important meet of the season.”
Nelson also ran in the 4K, and got 49th, beating her own personal record with a time of 16:22. She said that “The rest of the team did good. My teammates in my race all did amazing and we placed third overall in the race for the team.”
In addition to Ewing and Nelson, runners like Millie Crosby, Myles Bynum, Harvey Carlson, Felix Gravatte, and Connor Holloway did great at the meet.
“The kids ran great at the state meet,” Journalism teacher, former cross country coach and current parent Jason Nelson said. “Most of them ran their personal best times and they continued Noe’s success as a program. The coaches and parents are so proud of these kids and what they’ve been able to accomplish.”
