The last week of October is coming soon and with it is the excitement of Halloween, which brings spirit week and costume day. Students can wear Halloween costumes Friday Oct. 30, as long as they follow the rules.

“Costumes still obey the school dress code,” Assistant Principal Elizabeth Canale said. “They also have to not have any weapons or things that look like weapons.”

Students can’t wear anything that covers their faces, such as face paint, masks or any costumes with hoods. Students can’t wear anything that shows too much skin, such as costumes that show the midriff.

Costumes can’t be offensive: “Reflect stereotypes, make fun of race, mock cultural traditions, trivialize human suffering, and attempt to represent an entire culture or ethnicity,” according to the Diversity, Equity, and Poverty Department.

Youth Service Coordinator John Gribbins said costume day was created to “let kids act like kids, since they grow up so fast.”
