The twice-monthly club teaches Noe students J&C skills

On Oct. 21, the Noe Journalism students, and others interested, visited Manual’s Journalism & Communication (J&C) program. It was an opportunity for students to get a close look at a program to which many of them may apply.
Manual is also partnering with Noe’s Journalism students, offering an after school club called Press Pass, where students from Manual teach Noe’s Journalism students essential skills, such as writing, editing, and photography.
“J&C is about making your words matter,” said Alaya Judkins, a Manual J&C student.
Press Pass is a club in which students at Manual teach J&C skills to the Noe J&C students. The club is also open to non-Journalism students who attend Noe. They’ll be teaching students skills such as photography, videography, creative writing, and journalistic writing. Noe’s student body has expressed interest in this club, with nearly 70 signed up thus far. The first meeting will be Nov. 10.
This is one of the first times Manual has partnered with one of Noe’s programs, making this a productive step in expanding the Noe Journalism program.
Manual explained to Noe’s students how their Journalism program works, giving them an idea what it would be like for them if they were to apply and be accepted. They also briefly explained what they were looking for in applications, stating they were looking for “passion” in a specific topic, such as photography, writing, videography, etc.
Students were also able to tour the J&C classrooms, seeing samples of Manual’s work. When asked about other Journalism topics that Manual doesn’t provide or have a lot of experience with, Liz Palmer stated, “Just because you don’t see it done, doesn’t mean it can’t be done.”
This Wednesday (Oct. 28), Noe’s sixth-grade journalism students will visit Manual.
