Teachers, students agree a laid back personality helps

LOUISVILLE, KY, AUGUST 24 – Ever wonder what teachers believe students like about them compared to what students actually believe? Teachers and students were interviewed to see the difference in their opinions. Most of the kids had the same opinions and most of the adults had the same opinions, but did teachers and students agree?
Five students – Freddie Schadt (Incredible), Zoey Roberts (Incredible), Molly Marin (Incredible), Greta Elliot (Achiever), and Lila Stancle (Incredible) – shared their thoughts. Schadt believes a teacher should not be strict, but nice, funny, and an animal lover. Most said they prefer a more chill, laid back teacher, but Roberts said it’s also important that the teacher can keep a class in line. The students also want a teacher that stands out.
“Mrs. Doelling and her pink hair Slays,” Marin and Roberts both said.
“I like a teacher that is nice, kind, and respectful instead of screaming,” Elliot said.
Jessica Boston, Emily Singleton, and KelseyBlandford are sixth-grade teachers on Achievers. All three of them shared common answers, one being that they are happy that not every student is the same because they love having so many different personalities in their classrooms.
Blandford said, “ That would be boring, I want them all to behave but not to all act the same.”
The teachers also said that they wanted to make the learning relatable and that they try to make learning fun and interesting.
Singleton said, “I like to make learning relatable and tell the students how this will actually relate to them.”
All three of them also said that they like a teacher that pushes them to work harder and makes them better.
Boston said, “I think a teacher should care for the students, someone who just intentionally wants them to grow, and wants them to know how the lesson relates to the students.”
Boston believes that the students think they want a laid back teacher but they actually want to be learning. Singleton said she thinks that the kids like a more laid back and funny teacher but also a teacher that makes the lessons meaningful.
The one thing that these teachers and students both agreed on is that a teacher should be laid back and nice and someone who doesn’t yell a lot. Everyone believed that there should be diversity between teachers and students and that no two people should be the same.
