LOUISVILLE, AUGUST 21 – Weapons detectors have impacted many schools, with Noe being one of the first middle schools to use them.
At Noe, there are two locations you can enter – front lobby or cafeteria – but they both have Evolve weapons detectors. If the machine beeps when crossing, an adult with an IPad will tell you if you need to get your bag checked or not.
Weapons detectors are efficient because even if it’s not something bad, it’s at least safe to check.
“The students have received it very well and I think the biggest thing is to keep the school safe,” Tiffany Stoner, seventh-grade counselor, said.
From a 6th Grade perspective, Kyrie Starks said,”I think it helps me stay safe and for example if someone tried to sneak a weapon, they would get caught. Every teacher is super nice, thoughtful, and straight forward, so even if you do get pulled over, they don’t get mad at you.”
Overall, Noe Middle School is a safe environment for kids, and the administration works hard so it stays that way. The detectors impact schools all over the district, keeping JCPS a safe county to go and learn.
The Evolve systems use artificial intelligence and advanced sensors to scan for a specific metallic signature, object density, and shapes of concealed weapons, so anything resembling the shape of a weapon could set off the machine. Students are consistently reminded to remove their BLUE items – binders, laptops, umbrellas, and eyeglass cases – since these items can set off the machine.
