Student council is beginning soon and it’s your chance to be involved at Noe.
Student council is an organization focused on our students at Noe that is run by Mrs. Bormann with the help of last year’s head, Mrs. Mercer.
“Student council is a student-led organization at our school,” Mercer said. “We’ve had it now for four years, and every year we’ve tried to increase doing different things around the school that the students really want to do.”
She also said, “It’s all about hearing students’ voices and bringing activities and resources to school based on what students want.”
Student council members have the job of representing the students at Noe.
“The goal this year is to have a student council as a learning lab,” said Mercer. “Normally it was very difficult to meet during the day because everyone has such a different schedule. The big goal this year is that we’re going to have a learning lab every single morning, besides Mondays.”
Mercer explains that this year the student council will be more structured and have more leadership opportunities since student council is meeting more frequently and consistently.
“I hope to increase our student leaders in the building and I hope that the impact is that students actually feel heard and that this is their school too,” said Mercer.
Lastly, “Be a role model for our school by being a good student, having good grades, good conduct and just to lead yourself with etiquette,” said Mercer.
We have an inside scoop on what student council was like last year from a former leader of Noe’s student council, Caden Green. Green was the 7th-grade Chair last year.
“Normally we would meet in the gym or cafeteria.” Green explains, “Mrs. Mercer would talk about their upcoming goals and ideas, everyone would pitch in and state their thoughts. Then everyone would take on a role to accomplish that goal. Then at the next meeting, we would review how everything went.”
“I liked the community, I liked the teachers, and I liked volunteering. I just thought it was really fun,” said Green.
“It’s fun, (I) and Mrs. Bormon are the best,” said Mercer jokingly. “It’s great to put on your high school application and it’s great to do things for your school.”
“It was a great experience overall,” Green said.
Student council does many things for our school, such as planning events and running fundraisers to raise money for different opportunities for the students at Noe.
Student council is a great academic opportunity to make a difference at Noe and get to know and work with many other involved students. 2025’s student council has been selected and they begin meeting and working at the start of the learning lab for the second grading period.
