Sixth-Grade ELA teacher Elizabeth Calhoun

Elizabeth Calhoun is a sixth-grade English-language Arts (ELA) teacher at Noe Middle School on the Pathfinders team. She teaches sixth grade on the Pathfinders team and works hard every day in the classroom to make sure students are successful in her class.
Calhoun didn’t start teaching until she was 35 years old and has spent the past 11 years at Noe. Calhoun started teaching because she wanted something to do that would make parenting as a single mom easier. Calhoun originally wanted to teach social studies but the only open spot was for an ELA teacher and now she loves teaching the subject.
Calhoun aims to ensure all students in her class are successful. Calhoun makes sure every student can get work that suits their level of reading and comprehension skills. She also tries to ensure that students get the teaching style they prefer so they can learn and successfully complete their work. Lastly, she said she wants to make certain that her class is interesting so students can stay engaged.

“I like to read books and I like to talk about them and I like when I recommend a book to a student and they like it,” Calhoun said.
She loves reading fantasy. Some of her favorite books include the Harry Potter series and The Good Girls Guide to Murder books, Calhoun said.
Ultimately, Calhoun has a passion for reading she wants to share with the students in her class. By converting her classroom into a community of readers, she shows students that reading is a skill that can get you through many tasks in life.
